10 Yetis Insight - Billy Talks About Life As A Social Media Yeti

Hi I’m Billy, I’m a junior social media executive at 10 Yetis Digital.

What’s it like to be a Yeti?

10 Yetis is a market leading agency. It’s a great opportunity to be here, and to learn form the very best, that in itself is an exciting opportunity. I think being here, it’s taught me a lot of different things that I wasn’t necessarily expecting. But it’s been good. I like being a Yeti.

How did you get involved with 10 Yetis?

So funnily enough, I got involved though social media. Me and Andy, the Head Yeti here, we’ve been tweeting each other for quite a while, and following him through my degree. And he reached out to me, so that’s how I got involved.

What are some of the things you’ve been doing?

So I started as a Yeti typing up transcripts for different YouTube videos for one of our big clients. It’s all to boost the SEO for the video themselves and get more hits, but it’s not the most glamorous of jobs. Then moved onto things like, blog writing for our social media round up, then onto research flight times, and which sports have the worst concussion rates. It’s an interesting job, it’s way more diverse than I thought.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt here?

So one of the biggest things I’ve learnt here is to juggle many things at the same time. It’s never just one client, it’s three or four, it’s different pieces of work, different research projects at the same time. It’s quite difficult to juggle it all, but it’s really important.

Another thing is the subject line in an email, sometimes it’s really hard to find what you’re saying and what has been said. So a really specifical title is really important.

What did you expect working in social media would be like?

I expect I would just be tweeting all day and posting on Facebook. It’s not quite like that. It’s more content plans, it’s more researching. Every single tweet that we send out for through our clients, whether that’s BAM, whether that’s Lee Kum Kee it’s all thought through, it’s all planned ahead. And it’s all for a specific purpose.

What’s the best bit about being a Yeti?

So the best thing about being a Yeti is the environment in the office, it’s really fun, it’s really welcoming, it’s really driven. So everyone here wants to up their game, it makes you want to come alongside them and work hard too.
