10 Yetis Insight Blog – The 8 Sites That Can Turn Anyone Into A PR Star

Want to learn more about the public relations industry and all it involves? Need to read up on the field or brush up on your skills? Or maybe you just feel a little… kind of… out of the loop?

If you have no idea what your manager and colleagues are talking about, if you don’t have the faintest clue about the good and bad campaigns doing the rounds and if the future is all a mystery; then it’s time to stop messing about and get knee deep in industry news. The best way to learn more about the PR world is to live in it – and there are plenty of sites out there to help you really immerse yourself in the practices and theories of the field, as well as all the news and gossip too.

So where do you start? Well, here’s the sites that make up our favourites here at Yeti towers – get clicking peeps!

1. PR Week
This is an obvious one. if you google ‘PR news’ it’s likely to be up there as one of the first suggestions you’ll stumble across. With an online circulation of over 1.6 million unique visitors every month, PR Week is a great springboard into the PR world, offering some great insights into the industry with contributed pieces from well-respected professionals, as well as general news and updates.

2. PRmoment
A great hub for news, events and awards, PRmoment is a cool, underground site which has a kind of members-only vibe, even though anybody can access it. We don’t just love this site because of our own weekly contributions to their good and bad PR column, but it’s definitely worth checking out.

3. The Drum
The Drum is the place to be for all digital and PR news, full to the brim of news snippets and opinion articles on everything from social media to creative and TV campaigns. The Drum also hosts some respected industry awards live events.

4. Gorkana
Thanks to offering a media database and monitoring platform, Gorkana is widely well know by industry PR types and many of them use the service; but the site also offers benefits to non-members. In particular, the industry news section of the website is a great way to keep up with the movers and shakers in the field and keep an eye on what’s going on across the industry.

5. Response Source Media Bulletin
Much like Gorkana, many pros consider Response Source one of their everyday tools and a critical part of their PR repertoire. For those that aren’t familiar with it, it’s not only a media database but also a hub for journalists and PRs to post requests (for information, case studies, a Friday afternoon joke…) and they can then be sent out to all the other members. Beyond this, they also offer media bulletins that give a good round up of whose won what, who’s working with who and when the journalists switch up their roles.

6. Moz
We make no secret of our love for Moz here at 10 Yetis; we are the biggest fan girls (and boys) there are. Moz is an agency of great, forward-thinking SEO types and, as any good PR knows, SEO and PR are all merging into one big digital monster. Because of this, many of the learnings that can be taken from the Moz blog are invaluable to the success of any PR pro. Well worth a regular read.

7. Mashable
If you’re looking to hunt down some examples of great PR campaigns, or even the not-so-great-actually-bloody-awful ones, Mashable is a good site to check. The team have cracked a perfect balance of business, tech and consumer stories and news; making it a great resource for inspiration as well as keeping up with current affairs.

8. 10 Yetis – obviously!
Last but not least, and why would you need reminding, US! Check out our wonderful website, full of little gems (as well as a lot of flippin’ marvellous coverage and case studies) and keep an eye on the news section. We bring to the forte examples of good and bad PR every dog darn day, as well as a range of insight blogs on social media, PR, SEO and all kinds of other related topics every week. Seriously, though, we know our stuff.

So, that’s the top 8 sites according to us Yetis, and we hope you’ll find them useful in your quest to brush up your PR knowledge and keep on that cutting edge.
