10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad Public Relations - Thursday 29th March 2012

Good PR

I've got to give the title of 'good PR' today to Anchorman 2 and the Twitter and media frenzy surrounding it. The cult comedy, which is an absolute favourite of mine, first popped up in 2004 and was incredibly successful. So, it's great to hear that eight years later, we're going to get another dose of the legend that is Ron Burgundy.

The good PR surrounds the way it was announced, partly. Will Ferrell appeared on TV show Conan in the US, dressed as Ron Burgundy and very much in character. After a frankly exceptional performance on his flute and after throwing a bit of abuse Conan's way, Ron announced...

"'That as of 0900 Mountain time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to Anchorman."

You can watch the announcement below...

Bad PR

Bad PR today goes to Direct Line insurance, who are failing to pay out to a couple who moved into their dream home, only for their kitchen to collapse into the floor 24 hours after.

Although the couple got a Home Buyers report, setting them back £500, it failed to detect any faults. Direct Line said they would not pay for the damage, costing £24,000, because "any inherent building defects were not covered by insurance."

So, it's a shame the company has been flagged up in this. Still, I'd be pointing the finger at whoever fitted that kitchen!
