10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad Public Relations- Monday 21st May 2012

May 21st 2012

Hello, Shaun here with today's 10 Yetis Good & Bad PR Awards

Good PR

Today's 10 Yetis Good PR Award goes to the supermarket giant ASDA, which has received great press coverage in the national press today. ASDA has reviled its latest move in the supermarket price wars, as it is now selling whole salmon for just £2 each.

Reportedly this record low price that ASDA has announced is expected to prompt other supermarkets, such as Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons, to counter-launch cheaper deals. ASDA is using this cut price to further reinforce its brand image of being the UK's cheapest supermarket.

Bad PR

Today's 10 Yetis Bad PR Awards goes to Swansea University, which has been dragged into the press as a result of a Welsh student posting videos of himself drinking whole bottles of spirits. This 'stunt' comes as part of a current YouTube 'craze' of people making videos of themselves drinking a bottle of alcohol as fast as they can.

Rhys Dixon from Swansea University Student has posted a series of videos as the 'Swansea Student Drinker' which appear to show him drinking damaging amounts of alcohol.

Reports state that in one video Dixon is seen drinking an entire bottle of Jaegermeister, while in another he downs a pint of Smirnoff vodka followed by a pint of Jack Daniels whiskey.

Although not directly the universities fault, this story is showing it in a bad light and as a result it's bad PR for them.
