10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad Public Relations - Thursday 14th June 2012

Good PR

My example of good PR today surrounds a stunt that was executed to help promote the launch of the movie 'Man on a Ledge' on DVD.

An actor took to a balcony (or ledge, if you like) in Leicester Square, from which he threw £5 notes down onto the street; where, as you can imagine, people quickly gathered to get their share.

Some people were lucky enough to get up to £20, whilst others simply grabbed flyers that were made to look like five pound notes.

A nice visual stunt and one that certainly got people talking.

Bad PR

As you've probably already heard today, 32-year-old Westlife singer Shane Filan has been declared bankrupt, after the collapse of his multimillion pound property empire.

He allegedly has debts of £18 million, after borrowing millions from several banks in Ireland with his brother Finbarr. Shane said "I have worked long and hard to try to reduce my debts, and I am devastated that it came to this conclusion."

Shane and his brother Finbarr's company, Shafin (see what they did there?) developments, took out loans to build a 90 home estate in Dromahair, Co.Leitrim, but only half were built and many sold for less than they cost to build. Lesson? Stick to what you know!

Not good PR for him, or Westlife for that matter.
