10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Wednesday, July 4th 2012

Jul 4th 2012

Good PR:

I am a big fan of the Nando's, I actually had one on Sunday, so I am happy to announce that it is today's example of good PR.

Websites, such as the Daily Mail, are reporting today that US singer, Nicki Minaj, bought £3,000 worth of Nando's chicken after a gig in Manchester. As quick as a flash, Nando's popped a comment out to the press subtly hinting that they are not shocked she likes herself some chicken as even Rihanna is a fan...I'll pause here, and wait for Nando's to pick up that name it dropped.

PR Agency

Nando's is great at using celeb endorsement for the restaurant. The brand doesn't chuck millions at advertisers and then simply put an attractive celeb on a billboard, it offers celebs the very elusive 'black card' entitling them to free Nando's; thus resulting in this kind of PR gold.

Bad PR:

Special K is on the receiving end of some pretty negative PR today after a 'misleading' advert was banned. According to the news reports, Special K stated in a TV ad that a bowl of the cereal only came to 114 calories; however this is without milk. This may not sound like a biggy, but milk would actually add about 122 calories to the meal.

As a result of this mishap, the cereal is also being slammed for the fact that though it may be low in calories, it contains more sugar than Cornflakes and Weetabix.

Pretty bad PR if your USP is that it helps you lose weight!
