10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad Public Relations - Thursday 19th July 2012

Jul 19th 2012

Good PR

My example of good PR today surrounds ITV period drama Downton Abbey, after the programme has been recognised in three major categories of the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Award nominations; with 16 nods all in all.

Downton Abbey is up for Best Drama Series and Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville (stars of the show) are in the running for Best Actress and Actor. Joanne Froggatt, who plays Anna, a domestic servant in the series, has been nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series alongside co-star Maggie Smith.

All in all, this is great PR for Downton Abbey itself and ITV.

Bad PR

One of the world's leading mobile phone suppliers Nokia has received some bad press today after announcing further losses; totalling 1.4bn euros in the last quarter. Nokia lost more market share to Apple and Samsung.

Smartphone sales for the phone giant fell 34%, whilst general sales fell 19% to 7.54bn euros. CEO Stephen Elop put the troubles down to "competitive challenges" and, with the likes of Apple and Samsung bringing out top of the range handsets, it's not hard to see why.

The trouble the firm is facing at the moment has been reflected in the fact that Nokia halved the price of its flagship Lumia 900 handset in the US; the very model that was supposed to take on the likes of the iPhone. Bad times!
