10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad Public Relations Monday 6th of August 2012

Aug 6th 2012

Morning all, Alexa here to kick off the week with some good and bad PR. Once again, I feel this has to be Olympics themed. Once every four years we need to take full advantage of it, right?

Good PR

For the entirety of Team GB today. Following some taut media coverage regarding our slow build-up to gold recognition, finally, our medal stream at the highest level has begun. Andy Murray snatched gold against Swiss rival Roger Federer amidst a cracking crowd at Wimbledon, Jessica Ennis destroyed the heptathlon and Mo Farah - well, he took gold in one of the most supreme displays of human strength I have ever seen in my entire life: the 10km run. The press are on a jubilant roll of publicising every Team GB medal; beforehand, it was reported with a little bit of tension as questions regarding our current Olympic performance compared to Beijing were coming to the fore. Any doubt has been blown out of the water now.

Bad PR

The bad PR gong clashes in the face of Madonna today as Elton John reportedly called her a "f**king fairground stripper" on TV with reference to her somewhat racy displays during the MDNA tour. And to be honest, he has a point. The press have been less than kind to the aging pop star who still feels the need to bare all during performances rather than rely on vocal talent. Elton's outspoken insult further compounds this and, rather than casting his own reputation into disarray, highlights Madonna's condescending comments about Lady Gaga's Born This Way track. The latter is godmother to Elton's child, after all.
