10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad Public Relations- Friday 10th August 2012

Aug 10th 2012

Hola peeps! Emma here with today's Good and Bad PR, have a great weekend all

Good PR
ALL HAIL BOLT!

I can't give Good PR to anything else but THE Jamaican athlete of the moment today.. BOLT. He's smashed the record books to pieces and became the first Olympic athlete in history to retain the 100m and 200m gold medals.

We've all got Bolt fever here in the office, and it seems he has too, declaring "I'm now a legend. I'm also the greatest athlete to live." To be fair to him, we wholeheartedly agree.

Well done Bolt- blanket positive coverage in every national paper, and the nation's hearts.

Bad PR
Ex Big Brother "star" (ahem) Kenneth Tong is no stranger to Bad PR (I'm not going to give him the satisfaction of linking to any of his previous misdemeanors though) but today I can't ignore him for the Bad PR award.. even though it pains me to give it even more publicity.

The man has clinched the front pages one again today for a series of horrible tweets directed at Gary Barlow and his wife's loss of their stillborn baby Poppy earlier on this week. The tweets are so cruel that I'm not even going to link to them or state what they say, but if you want to check them out for yourself, his Twitter handle is @MrKennethTong.

The tweets have unsurprisingly caused a huge backlash on Twitter and in the press, with no one really understanding why Tong has launched this cruel assault on Gary Barlow and his family (with a string of tweets directly @'ing the star). No doubt, it's a serious cry for attention and a desperate plea for press, which (unfortunately) he's achieved. Let's hope the Twitter gods take action post-haste.
