Just A Tenth Of Young Adults Don't Use The Internet Every Day
New research from the UK’s leading discount website has revealed that just 9% of 18 to 25 year olds don’t use the internet every day, with the majority claiming they ‘couldn’t be bothered’.
It would appear that more and more people are becoming reliant on the web, as a new study has revealed that just 9% of 18 to 25 year olds don’t use the internet on a daily basis.
www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk polled a total of 1,488 Britons aged between 18 and 25, in order to find out how much time young people spend online.
Respondents were initially asked if they went online every day, to which almost all, 91%, of those polled said ‘yes’. They were then asked what they predominately used the internet for every day, to which the results were as follows:
- Social Media 71%
- Work/study 59%
- Email 51%
- Shopping 42%
- Online banking 33%
Those that said they didn’t use the internet every day were asked to specify why this was the case, to which 47% said that they ‘couldn’t be bothered’. 29% said that they ‘didn’t have time’ whilst 21% said that they ‘had no need to’. 3% said they didn’t have the internet.
Almost all, 86%, of those polled said that they had a social networking account, but 12% said that they rarely used it.
Furthermore, of those that said they did use the internet, 31% said that they spent at least 5 hours online every day.
Those polled were asked to state if they had a job that involved using the internet, to which 67% said ‘yes’. Of these, just 4% said that they didn’t use the internet at all when they got home from work. When asked why, the majority said that they wanted to ‘have a break’ from the web.
Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, had the following to say about the study:
Although I think it is quite obvious that everyone uses the internet a lot, it’s still quite shocking to see the figures. Obviously the internet is a great resource to have at our fingertips, but that doesn’t mean we have to use it all the time.
He continued:
“Whilst the internet can make it easier to stay in touch with people, it does make you wonder what we did without it! It can sometimes be refreshing to turn off your phone and not log onto the internet; try it out!”
