National Dress Like A Videogame Character Day Has Landed
In celebration of the anniversary of the launch of the first PlayStation console, the nation’s first ‘National Dress Like a Videogame Character Day’ has hit the UK today; with gaming fans up and down the country encouraged to dress up as they go about their daily routines.
Gaming fans up and down the country finally have an excuse to go about their daily business dressed as their favourite videogame characters; as today sees the official launch of the UK’s first national ‘Dress Like a Videogame Character Day’.
Created in celebration of the anniversary of the launch of the first PlayStation in Japan in 1994; ‘National Dress Like a Videogame Character Day’ today encourages gaming fans up and down the country to go about their daily routines dressed as their favourite video game characters.
Launched by gaming comparison website www.Playr2.com, today aims to encourage video game fans to mark the milestone of 17 years since the launch of the first PlayStation console; celebrating how important the console has been to the gaming industry over the past two decades.
To mark the day, people are today encouraged to head to work, visit the shops or undertake their usual journeys on public transport; proudly sporting the look of their favourite characters from video games over the years.
To celebrate the event, Playr2.com is encouraging all those taking part to upload pictures of themselves in full video game fancy dress to the Playr2 Facebook site (fb.com/playr2dotcom) or tweet them to @Playr2com throughout the day. All those who send in their images will then automatically go in to a draw to win £200 worth of Amazon vouchers.
Simon Kilby, Founder of Playr2.com, had the following to say about the official launch:
“We really wanted to do something to celebrate the huge success of the PlayStation since its launch in December 1994, so thought there was no better way than encouraging people up and down the country to dress up as their favourite video game characters whilst they go about their daily business; showing their love for gaming with pride! So far the enthusiasm of those taking part has been fantastic and it seems that people really are embracing the day as a chance to wear their gamer badge on their sleeve.
We wanted to see Sonics on the way to work, Marios grabbing their morning coffee and Donkey Kong in the lunch queue at the sandwich shop; and are so glad to see that people have embraced it with pride! Everyone who takes part can send us their pictures via Facebook or Twitter, where they’ll automatically be entered into a draw to win £200 worth of Amazon vouchers. We encourage the nation to embrace today as National Dress Like a Videogame Character Day; and to proudly show off their gamer status!
