62% Of Oap's Only Learn To Use The Web For Cheap Holidays
62% of all holidays booked by OAPs are booked online and 74% of these tech-savvy OAPs taught themselves how to use the net specifically to grab themselves bargain online holidays.
A study of 142 retired Brits, commissioned by www.sunshine.co.uk, found that 62% are now booking holidays on the net; 74% of which taught themselves how to use the net specifically to book online holidays.
The research commissioned by the UK's fastest growing independent online travel agent found that over 60% of OAPs are ditching the high street for online travel agents, claiming that the ease of use, the hassle free gathering of all information and the added bonus of being able to stay in their slippers are the main reasons for the rise of the tech-savvy OAP.
According to research, 36% of OAPs use the internet to save money on holidays, 24% see the net as the hassle-free option, 17% like the fact they can book from the comfort of their own home and a surprising 13% of OAPs feel less pressurised to book a more expensive holiday on the net than when face-to-face with a travel agent.
In addition to the increase in OAPs using the internet to book holidays, sunshine.co.uk has also seen a huge increase in the amount of OAPs booking bargain 4-week winter holidays, for as little as £4 pppn, in an attempt to escape the cold British weather and the hefty energy bills.
Chris Brown, Managing Director of sunshine.co.uk comments;
"The increase in the amount of OAPs booking their holidays online doesn't surprise me at all - it's cheaper, very straight forward and saves time and effort dragging themselves around various travel agents in town.
"It seems OAPs are becoming much more technically-aware and it's great that so many people are reaping the benefits of shopping online. Almost 1 in 5 holidays booked through sunshine.co.uk in the last 6 months came from OAPs and that figure is on the up!"
In addition to the 74% of OAPs using the net specifically to book cheap holidays, 17% also use the internet for the majority of their shopping and 12% of retired Brits mainly use the internet for online banking.
