Parents More Likely To Buy Own Brand Food For Children Than Pets
New research from one of the USA’s leading coupon code websites has revealed that the majority of parents are more likely to buy own brand food for their children than for their pets, with most of them claiming that their pets are ‘too fussy’ for the cheaper options.
It would appear that pets are pickier than children when it comes to food, or that parents treat their pets more so than their kids, as a new survey reveals that parents are more likely to buy own-brand, value food for their children than their pets.
www.CouponCodes4u.com surveyed a total of 1,992 parents from across the USA as part of research into children’s eating habits. All respondents also had one pet or more.
Respondents were initially asked to state if they ever purchased own brand or value food for their children, to which 53% said ‘yes’. When asked if they did the same for their pets, only 37% said that they did.
Those polled were then asked to state why this was the case, to which the majority, 76%, replied that their pets were fussier than their children when it came to food.
Of those that said they didn’t buy own brand food for their children, half, 52%, said that they preferred to make their children fresh food whenever possible, whilst 34% of parents said they only occasionally let their children eat whatever they wanted, as a treat.
Those that said that their pets were fussier than their children when it came to food were asked to specify how this was so, to which the majority replied that their pet would only eat one type of food. 17% of these said that they only bought the best food available for their pets.
43% of the parents said that they liked to keep their children on a strict, healthy diet, whilst 11% said that they weren’t overly concerned about what their children ate.
Mark Pearson, Chairman of CouponCodes4u.com, had the following to say about the results:
It’s interesting to find out that so many people have such fussy pets! Whilst cats and dogs can be very picky about what they will and won’t eat, ultimately they will end up eating what’s put in front of them!
He continued:
“It can be both easier and cheaper to buy value or own brand food, but you always need to take the quality of food into consideration. It can be tempting to cook microwave meals for dinner, which is fine every once in a while, but it is important to make sure that your child is getting all the nutrition they need from their meals.”
