Site statistics from the UK’s leading discount website have revealed the difference in popularity between Apple’s iPad and the BlackBerry Playbook, as searches for the Playbook were less than half those for the iPad during the first two weeks of the pre-order period.

It would appear that BlackBerry’s Playbook has been unable to match the popularity of the iPad, as site statistics from the UK’s leading discount website have revealed that the number of searches for the Playbook within the first two weeks of the pre-order period were less than half those of the iPad within the same time frame.

The statistics, from www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, were collated as part of research into the competitive world of technology. On-site searches during the first two weeks of the pre-order period for each tablet computer were compared in order to find out the difference in popularity between Apple’s device and the latest offering from RIM.

Searches for the iPad totalled more in the first day of its pre-order period than the Playbook did in the whole two weeks it has been available for pre-order so far. Searches for other tablet computers, such as the Samsung Galaxy, were also higher than those for the Playbook within the first two weeks of the pre-order period.

MyVoucherCodes.co.uk also commissioned a survey in order to try and find out why the Playbook wasn’t as popular as the iPad. The survey polled 1,092 site users from across the UK.

Respondents were initially asked if they had purchased a tablet computer, to which 14% said ‘yes’. They were then asked to specify which tablet computer they had bought, to which the majority, 52% said ‘iPad’. 27% said they owned a Samsung Galaxy; whilst just 1% said they had pre-ordered a Blackberry playbook.

Those that didn’t plan to purchase a Playbook were asked why it perhaps wasn’t for them, to which the majority, 62%, said they preferred other models of tablet computers.

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, had the following to say about the results:

personal PR

The Blackberry Playbook has had a tough time recently and it’s not even available to purchase yet! It’s one of the last tablet computers to be released on to the market, so Apple had already managed to get two versions of the iPad out by the time this one came about.

personal public relations

He continued:

“It’s not very surprising to find that the Playbook is less popular than the iPad in terms of searches in the first two weeks of the pre-order period, but it was quite surprising to see just how unpopular it was in comparison. The real test will be to take a look at the popularity of the two devices again once the Playbook is out for sale in mid-June.”
