Two Fifths Of Women Think They Are 'prettier' Than Britain And Ireland’s Next Top Model Contestants
Research from the UK’s leading discount website has found that a third of women believe they have the ‘qualities’ required to be a model, whilst a further 42% think they are ‘prettier’ than the contestants on Sky Living’s Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model; with 23% believing the potential models on the show are ‘plain’.
In light of the success of Sky Living’s Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, the UK’s leading discount website conducted a study of 1,273 women who watch the TV show in a bid to discover their opinions of their own appearance and if they feel confident about their ‘style’.
The study, conducted by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, initially asked the respondents if they believed they had the ‘qualities’ required to be a model, to which a third, 32%, answered ‘yes’. Furthermore, when asked if they thought they were ‘prettier’ than the ladies featured on Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, two fifths, 42%, said ‘yes’.
According to the research, more than two thirds, 67%, of those who took part in the study stated that the contestants featured on Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model didn’t match their own perception of supermodels. When asked to explain further, 23% said that they felt this way because the contestants looked ‘too plain’.
Furthermore, of the 67% that said the women starring in Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model didn’t match their own perception of supermodels, 14% claimed it was because they were ‘too thin’ whilst 18% cited that the contestants are ‘unattractive’.
Only 38% of those who took part in the study claimed to feel ‘confident in their own style’ with a further 63% admitting to drawing ‘inspiration’ from ‘celebrities styles’. When the respondents were asked about their options towards the styles of the contestants on Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, the majority, 34% ‘liked’ the outfits worn.
Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said the following about the findings,
It is interesting to see that although some of the respondents do not feel that they could be models, they do believe that they are more attractive than the contestants featuring on Sky Living’s Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model. Perhaps this shows that we are more critical of others than we are of ourselves.
He continued,
“Basing a style on a celebrity isn’t at all uncommon, and so many celebrities now shop from high-street stores, making it a lot easier for people to copy. If people do want to base their style on a celebrity, without the price tag, sites such as MyVoucherCodes.co.uk frequently offer discounts from fashion retailers, meaning you can get the style without the cost.”
