10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Friday February 2nd 2018

Happy Friday y’all. Here’s some good and bad PR to get you through your Friday… enjoy.

Good PR

Pokémon Go is still going strong and the team at Nintendo have just announced that generation 3 Pokemon are now in the game, ready for you to find. Gen 3 Pokémon to find include Minun, Sharpedo, Snorunt and Masquerain – all from the Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Game Boy Advance games (those were the days!)

And how did they make the announcement? They released a trailer inspired by Frozen Planet and Planet Earth, voiced by our beloved Stephen Fry (I guess David Attenborough was probably in some far off land doing what he does best), and with music by George Fenton who just so happens to have done the music for the documentaries.

The video is genius. You can’t deny it.

And considering there are more generations of Pokémon to go, I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Maybe a Game of Thrones style trailer if the next update is in 2019? But what we do know is that the company are planning to take Pokémon to the Nintendo Switch, so those with the console have something to look forward to.

Bad PR

I’m giving this week’s bad PR to Bournemouth Council for what they’re doing to combat homelessness… installing metal bars down the middle of all benches so that the homeless can’t sleep on them.

This is just as bad as when spikes in doorways appeared in South London so that the homeless couldn’t sleep there.

Having someone homeless sleeping in your doorway or on a bench outside your shop isn’t ideal, but have some sympathy; most of us have nice warm beds to go home to at the end of the day. Homeless people don’t. And at this time of year it’s bitterly cold (to the point of freezing some nights) and now we’re not going to let them even sleep off the floor?!

Local residents are calling the move by Bournemouth Council “very aggressive and hostile”, “shameful” and a “design against humanity.”. One person even stated the obvious “They send out one signal and one signal only and that is homeless people are not welcome in this town.”

In an ideal world there would be no homelessness. But this isn’t an ideal world and homelessness doesn’t exist. How about we show a little compassion to those less fortunate than ourselves?!
