10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 13th January 2020

Happy Monday one and all. As it’s the first day of the week, and it’s been a while since I’ve put pen to paper (so to speak) for the blog, I guess it’s time I brought you up to speed with some good and bad PR. So without any further ado, let’s start with the good stuff…

Good PR

Matt Ryan

Brighton’s Australian goalkeeper, Matt Ryan, pledged to donate A$500 for every save that was made in the Premier League to help the Australian bushfire crises. There were 56 saves in total, meaning he has donated A$28,000 to the Australian bushfire relief fund.

This comes following various celebrity donations, including Chris Hemsworth, Kylie Jenner, Gordon Ramsay, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe and Rebel Wilson.. to name but a few.

Greggs

First the vegan sausage roll and now the vegan steak bake, Greggs are evolving to keep up with ever-changing popular trends and they are reaping the rewards of a clever business plan. Last week they announced they will be paying workers £7m in bonuses, meaning the bakery’s 25,000 employees who are eligible will receive around £280 as a bonus for their hard work in their wages this month. Well done Greggs! Keep being good!

Bad PR

Asda

They have recently opted to scrap their fresh fish and meat counters in favour of ‘food-to-go’ counters. The bad PR doesn’t lie in changing their fresh fish and meat to ‘food-to-go’ counters, but the bad PR does come from cutting back-office jobs. 2,800 Asda workers face the threat of redundancy because Asda are looking to cut costs. These problems aren’t new for Asda and they have had a number of job problems in the past year or so, not least forcing staff to sign a new contract or get out.

Love Island and Ollie Williams

It is the inaugural season of Love Island’s Winter edition and the producers of the show have potentially dropped a big clanger by including Ollie Williams. As is always the case with anyone making an appearance on TV, viewers took to his social media accounts and dug out his deep and dirty secrets. Upon further investigation, it was found he has been animal hunting in the past and shared images of himself posing with the various animals he hunted and killed. This could create problems when Ollie leaves the villa and will be something that the Love Island producers will have to deal with because of the awful news stories from previous seasons.
