10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 21st January 2019

Hey everyone; it’s ya girl Harriet, ready to give you today’s good and bad PR. I hope you like reading all about my choices.

Good PR

A new establishment named Café 21 is an amazing place that is giving adults with down syndrome the opportunity to get some work experience.

The café, which is located in Leeds, employs people aged 18 – 24 to work in the kitchen or front of house, serving customers yummy treats and drinks.

47 year-old Ailith Harley-Roberts launched the café earlier this month after they trialed it successfully for a week in March 2018.

The Café pays the hard workers the national living wage, hoping that other food establishment and places of work follow suit.

Ailith commented that ‘The young people here have thrived’.

Café 21 is a permanent fixture for six months but the community are hoping it will stay open after this. Fingers crossed!

Who doesn’t love a cheeseburger?! (Probably us vegetarians and vegans, although I can’t say I don’t miss the smell of a cheeseburger after a pint), anyway I digress, for those who do love cheeseburgers, McDonald's are giving away the delicious morsels for free FOR FIVE DAYS.

That’s right, you can claim a free cheeseburger and you have a whole five days to do it.

All you have to do is download their app and head to a branch near you. Once you have that magical app, you have to head to ‘my deals’ and claim your free burger.

This promotion is intended to brighten up customers week as it’s Blue Monday today, the ‘most depressing day of the year’.

Bad PR

Avon is facing some backlash for their anti-cellulite campaign wherein phrases such as, “dimples are cute on your face (not your thighs)", appear over a woman who seems to be face-palming at the very thought of cellulite.

The series of images promoted the brands “Smooth Moves Naked Proof” anti-cellulite cream which says it combats the lumps and bumps the skin condition can inflict on the body.

It appeared in the North American brochure and people have been accusing the brand of trying to capitilise on insecurities by saying it isn’t cute or normal to have.

It’s thought that 80-90% of women will have cellulite at some point in their life so take that Avon. Cellulite is alright by us!

Jameela Jamil took to Twitter to have a go at the ludicrous images. Her tweet has now been liked 59.9k times.

Ironman UK has faced the wrath of fitness people across the country after they announced they would be adding the “Iron Girl” event to their planned weekend. The issue is that the Iron Girl event is just a 5k fun run.

Avid runners and the general public are criticising the organisers for patronising women and underestimating their ability.

On the subject, executive cabinet member for culture and sport in Bolton, Cllr John Byrne told news outlets:

“Just when you thought this annual event couldn’t get any bigger and better, it does.

“The addition of Iron Girl will be yet another feature to an already exciting weekend known as much for its festive atmosphere as for the feats of endurance from the athletes.

“This particular event opens up the Ironman weekend to even more people – not everyone wants to do an Ironman but some might quite fancy a 5k run with their friends."

Whilst it is great that they're trying to inclusive for all, I do think that Ironman UK went about this in the wrong way.
