10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 23rd March 2020

Most of us are now into day 5 of working from home, and our collective sanity is beginning to eek away from us, as made-up colleagues take the rap to save relationships, and virtual pubs are the new pubs. However, never fear as I’m back with a roundup of the good and bad PR from the past week – but don’t worry, I will be keeping it mostly positive as the astute among you will have noticed it’s all a bit doom-and-gloom-ey in the news at present.

Good PR

NHS staff, retail workers, teachers, delivery drivers and anyone else involved in the fight against Covid-19 get the first shoutout for good PR – keep doing what you’re doing; the country is eternally grateful for your service despite the fact some find it harder than others to express.

On the subject of NHS staff and retail workers, a Tesco branch in Belfast has received applause for its treatment of healthcare officials in its store. Tesco, amongst other supermarkets, has started an ‘NHS hour’ each Sunday before opening, to allow healthcare staff to purchase their essentials before it flies off the shelves.

This particular branch went above and beyond, when they welcomed NHS staff with applause and flowers during the hour, showing the appreciation they truly deserve.

Sticking with the theme of supermarkets, Morrisons has launched a food box service for those unable to order online or get to store easily.

The boxes contain everyday essentials, cost £35 including delivery and are supposedly enough to feed two adults for one week. The boxes are prioritised for the elderly and vulnerable, and is a great and innovative solution for those that are struggling right now – good job.

There have been far too many stories of retailers and other various employers mistreating their staff in these testing times, so it’s great to hear news of a retailer doing the opposite, which is the case of Timpson.

Taking to twitter, chief cobbler James Timpson said that they would temporarily be closing all of their stores today, at the same time announcing that their … ahem … *key* workers would remain on full pay for the duration.

One last heartwarming story? Oh, go on then:

Canadian airline WestJet celebrated four students’ graduation, after hearing inflight that it had been cancelled just before the journey. The crew decided to host their very own graduation onboard, as their real one had unfortunately been cancelled.

Bad PR

People panic buying and those that decided the weekend was the best time to visit the seaside with hundreds of others. STOP IT.
