10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 29th October 2018

Our good and bad round-up comes from Meg Sneade who has joined us for the week to experience being a yeti. Take it away Meg!

Happy Monday everyone! We’re approaching the end of October, which only means one thing! Halloween is right around the corner, and to get in the spirit, here’s the good, the bad and the spooky PR stories this week...

Bad PR

BBC’s most glamorous show, Strictly Come Dancing, came under fire this week after their highly anticipated Halloween special aired on Saturday.

The show opened with the bunch of remaining celebrities dancing to Harry Belafonte’s ‘Jump in the Line’, or more commonly known as ‘Shake, Senora’, with costumes and props inspired by the annual Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead.

Before the celebs started to get their jig on, a voice-over stated that the performance was a tribute to the festival. However, it divided the viewers, as many took to Twitter accusing the show of cultural appropriation, claiming Day of the Dead is completely unrelated to Halloween. Strictly has yet to respond to the claims.

This backlash is coming just weeks after contestant Seann Walsh and his partner Katya Jones were pictured kissing in the streets of London. Looks like Strictly is having a bit of a mare this season.

Good PR

Moving onto jollier news, this week we’ve seen a number of individuals getting into the spooky spirit.

First up we have streaming service, Now TV. They have created a service where you can hire your own clown bouncer or, as they have so cleverly called it a ‘Clowncer’, to keep trick-or-treaters at bay this Halloween.

In response to a survey unveiling that brits will be opening their door on average every six minutes this hallows eve, Now TV, have offered 10 lucky people across the country the chance to have their very own clown bouncer guarding their door.

Now TV posted a scary promo video on their social platforms, introducing us to their guards captioned ‘Meet the Clowncers if you dare’ which racked up over 16,000 views on Twitter and over 60,000 on Facebook.

This spooktacular idea (I’m sorry for the pun, but it had to be done) is aimed to help those who do not want to be bothered get an undisturbed night so they can watch their favourite horrors and thrillers available on the service.

What’s Halloween without dressing up? But this year you might have a tough time trying to beat pop-singer, Rita Ora’s costume, who dressed as rapper Post Malone, including his iconic and relatable ‘Always Tired’ tattoo.

She rocked up to the KISS Halloween party this Saturday looking the spitting image of Post Malone, complete with beard, curly hair, flannel shirt and even a bud light in hand.

Ora posted a snap of her outfit on her social channels and the post received a lot of love, with over 14,000 people favouriting the tweet and 340,000 users liking her Instagram post, stating she has ‘won’ Halloween.

Everybody loves a star that goes all out with their costume!
