10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 3rd June 2019

Happy Monday y'all. Today's good and bad PR is a nail biter... I talk about Aldi's Special Buys and what Cadbury desserts you should currently be avoiding if you want to live!

Good PR

I’m giving some good PR love to Aldi and their ‘Special Buys’. These are limited edition products that they create a huge PR buzz about online, get everyone talking about them and wanting them, only to sell a small handful in each store of each product.

I myself got suckered in a few weeks back; we saw the press coverage for the log burner and we just had to have one for our garden. Think about the summer nights you can spend outside by the fire! And for £60? What a bargain.

Sat outside Aldi at 7:30am I felt like an idiot. Was I getting excited about nothing? I was the only one in the car park; clearly I bought into a hype that wasn’t real. Except, 10 minutes before the store opened, the car park was full and everyone was waiting outside the doors (behind me – position #1) to get in to get a log burner… except they only had a few and were handing out tickets to those who were there first. It was like Supermarket Sweep; the doors opened and I ran with my trolley around the shop. WHERE WERE THEY?! Thankfully I’d got talking to a lovely person in the queue outside and he came to find me to let me know my log burner was at the checkout (and those without a ticket weren’t getting one – I felt smug AF).

Just today it’s come out that they’re launching a three-tiered pizza stand for £9.99. I have never needed to cook three pizzas at the same time. But do I want one? Heck yes!

Fantastic example of a company smashing their product PR. I doff my hat.

Bad PR

PRODUCT RECALL ALERT.

And it’s for Muller / Cadbury’s products, of all things!

There are two puddings in the product recall; Cadbury Caramel Cheesecake and Cadbury Dairy Milk Cheesecake. The fear is that these two products may contain a potentially deadly strain of bacteria and the Food Standards Agency is urging everyone who has purchased these to return them to the shops for a refund.

The infection is thought to be Listeriosis – a rare infection caused by listeria. It’s most dangerous for pregnant women, children, the elderly and those with weak immune systems. The symptoms are very similar to the symptoms of flu, and these include a high temperature, sickness and diarrhoea and muscle ache. While it usually goes away by itself, it also might not.

Under no circumstances should you eat these puddings.

A spokesperson for Muller (who creates these products under license from Cadbury) said that this “is an isolated incident” and “an extensive investigation is being carried out.”
