10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 9th April 2018

With Easter well out of the way for yet another year and your bins looking as if you own half of Cadbury World, it’s time to get back to that diet that we have all been in and out of since January.

To spice up your Monday, here’s this week’s good and bad PR, brought to you by our latest intern, Paige.

Good PR

Remember the saying, “you never know what you’ve got until it’s gone?” That was all of us when the Cadbury white chocolate Dream was discontinued just a few years after launching back in 2002. Every year, thousands of people on social media demand a comeback.

Well, Cadbury have listened, but given us a twist on the much loved chocolate… you can soon buy the Cadbury Dream again, but alas, only in ice cream form – whilst not the chocolate bar itself, it sounds good enough to us. Even better, they are being sold in packs of three, yum!

Just in time for summer, Cadbury has described the launch product as a “vanilla flavour ice cream covered in Cadbury Dream white chocolate” and we can’t wait.

It’s 2018, which means you can FINALLY now buy eco-friendly coffee. With thanks to The Eden Project, a new range of biodegradable coffee pods are now available which cause no damage to the environment, simply because they break down into raw materials within just a couple of weeks.

Once you’ve made your coffee, you put your pod into the compost and then they’re entered into the recycling circle. The packaging is even made with vegetarian inks and is also both recyclable and compostable.

The Eden Projects commercial manager, Tracey Smith, said: “At Eden we are always searching for sustainable solutions and looking to reduce waste, these fully compostable capsules allow coffee lovers to enjoy delicious ethically-sourced coffees without creating additional plastic waste”. A definite thumbs up from us.

Bad PR

I think every one of us gets a thrill about how the £2.80 Naked Smoothie is allowed to be snuck into your Boots £3.29 meal deal - especially if you’re trying to be healthy and keep low on the pennies! However, Tesco has been slammed this week after selling 375ml bottles of Coca Cola instead of the standard 500ml within their meal deals. Shoppers are said to be furious that they are paying the same amount of money even though they are given a smaller version of the beverage. Tesco have been asked for comment - but could they blame it all on the new sugar tax?

Keeping with the food theme, if you’re going to pay a high-end price for your weekly dinner out, you’d expect that what you’re paying for is exactly what you get. Not this week. A woman was left fuming after she was charged a whopping £13 for a camembert served in Asda packaging. The Severn Shed, in Bristol, gave Emma Daniels the £1.15 priced cheese as a starter to her meal.

General Manager, Ashley Kirwan, has ‘defended’ his name by saying: “Obviously it is something that I have not heard of before. I have been here a week and for me the business is very new. I'm going to look into it and speak to the person. We've got to work out what actually happened. Until then I can't really say much.”

“I’m sorry I have sold you an £11.85 difference in cheese, Emma” perhaps would have been a good start?!
