10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Wednesday 29th August 2018

Afternoon! So I am Fran and I am new to the PR team here at 10 Yetis. Here is my first stab at the good and bad PR - hope you enjoy.

Good PR

IKEA Thurrock opened its doors to more than 200 people that were left stranded overnight on the M25. This came after a serious collision meant there were huge tailbacks and the motorway closed.

The incident involved two lorries, one of which overturned and ended up in an embankment. Although no one is known to be seriously injured, the motorway had to be shut overnight whilst repairs went underway to fix the road surface. Many ended up sleeping in their cars, but a group of around 200 were allowed into the store past it’s 10pm closing time.

IKEA received praise across social media with people tweeting pictures of them looking cosy in the IKEA bedrooms whilst also receiving national coverage from The Sun, Metro and Daily Mail! That’s one way to get your bedroom furnishings noticed!

Bad PR

BrewDog is a multinational brewery that don’t seem to be doing too well with their PR efforts. Even shareholders have been left pretty embarrassed and disappointment by the most recent stunt trying to incorporate beer and, umm... porn.

The GIF in BrewDog’s tweet says enough really, but then they go and use the slogan ‘turn it on’, leaving people wondering if their PR and Marketing team are made up of bunch of 14-year olds.

Their aim in trying to make beer the most popular content on the internet by launching their own network has pretty much back fired and left half their audience alienated whilst the other half have turned their backs on the brand all together! Not a good PR move!
