10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Wednesday 29th May 2019

We’re two days into the week and it’s Wednesday already; bank holidays really are magical. Anyway, I am back with some of the best, and worst, PR that we’ve spotted from the past week. The theme today concerns fashion brands, for no other reason than complete coincidence.

Good PR

Primark, everyone’s favourite low-price fashion outlet, has received a great deal of praise this week for its latest Toy Story 4 campaign, and for good reason.

The campaign – which drops in June – features Bernadette Hagans, who had to have her leg amputated after she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. The advert is not only great for Bernadette, but also for promoting inclusivity across the board.

In a similar vein, Asos is currently featuring unretouched photos of models on its websites, with a whole different range of looks and sizes, with no editing in sight.

Generally ahead in the market when it comes to representation of all shapes and sizes, Asos has come under a lot of praise for the unretouched photos. Whilst it certainly shouldn’t be something that requires praise, the fashion industry is generally a long way off fair representation, and therefore Asos’s efforts should be somewhat applauded.

Bad PR

On the flipside of the coin, in an apparent epidemic of ill-fitting clothes, both PrettyLittleThing and Boohoo have been caught out by people ordering their wares and seeing them arrive several sizes too small.

PrettyLittleThing sent out a dress to one lucky customer that resembled a doll’s outfit more than a human’s, and the person in question was subsequently unable to get her head through the hole.

Boohoo, in a similar manner, came under fire when a 17-year old bought a dress from the site, and later found that it fit her seven-year-old cousin better than it did her.
