10 Yetis Insight Blog - How To Improve Your Online PR, by a Digital Agency

Online PR. What IS online PR?

If you have a quick google search, you will undoubtedly encounter a multitude of different explanations and descriptions written by fluffy PR practitioners (such as myself!) which may end up leaving you even more confused.

Online PR encompasses all the elements that can help a business achieve coverage and enhance its reputation online, through securing strong follow links from high domain authority websites in order to improve its google rankings. Here at 10 Yetis we don’t like to brag (much!) but we are extremely proud of our ability to generate high levels of follow links and SEO benefits for clients across the board. Here are just a few elements we consider extremely important when attempting to improve online PR efforts:

Link-building SEO

The line between online PR and SEO (search engine optimisation) is a fine one, and one goes hand in hand with the other in terms of the work we carry out for clients here at 10 Yetis. In the field of SEO, link building describes actions aimed at increasing the number and quality of in-bound links to a web-page. By securing clients follow-links on websites with a high domain authority (DA) through news articles, features and thought-leadership pieces, we are able to help boost their google rankings in relation to relevant search terms.

Some of the high DA websites we have a successful track record of securing coverage for include Yahoo.com, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, The Telegraph, Forbes.com, Mashable and the holy grail of websites, The Mail Online.

Social media

With the majority of us either glued to our phones or laptops, checking our Facebook and Twitter profiles throughout the day, it’s imperative that in order to ensure a client story reaches its maximum audience potential we seed their activity on relevant social platforms. Some of the most impressive coverage we have seen for client stories have resulted in thousands of engagements and shares from a single news article that struck a note with social media users.

We always make sure we keep an eye on the hashtag #journorequest throughout the day on twitter. Journalists and reporters from major national print and broadcast outlets use the service when searching for specific case studies, quotes or experts for interviews. It is also worth noting that journalists around the world use social media in order to source information or inspiration for their own articles, so by keeping on top of social media and sharing all your clients activity, you never know who might see it and pick up the story.

Blogger outreach

These days, many companies are keen to expand their brand awareness and one important aspect of our online PR efforts are focused in blogger outreach for a number of our national clients; like Optical Express, Superdry and Made.com. We are in regular communication with a multitude of bloggers and vloggers working across a variety of different sectors, and have successfully organised a number of partnered blog posts and YouTube videos aimed at showcasing our clients to a whole new audience online.

Journalist Relationships

Keeping close relationships with journalists can be an important part of securing online PR coverage for clients. By getting to know which reporters cover different areas, PR’s like us are able to sell-in exclusives and offer client stories ahead of time to those who we feel might be the most interested in a particular angle or story. Here at 10 Yetis we find that the best way to keep in contact with journalists is through creating twitter relationships. Often PR’s and journalists are tweeting and talking about similar subjects and newsworthy events, so natural similarities occur and connections can be formed. One thing is for sure though, NEVER try to pitch a client story to a journalist that follows you via direct twitter messaging; it will only end in tears and an unfollow.
