How long have you worked at 10 Yetis

I've just passed my 3-year mark here are 10 Yetis!

Run us through your day

Firstly, I will open my emails and check if I've received anything new. Normally it'll be client questions or amends that I will make a start on responding to. Between doing this I will realise the office is a little quiet and, as one of the office DJs, I will choose a playlist depending on my mood that day and queue any requests I get throughout the day.

Once I'm done with my emails I will proceed with the current project I'm working on; this can vary quite a lot - I am currently working on an internal project. It’s a twitter tool that gets trending terms associated with user specified search terms.

We create a few of these internal social tools for 10 Yetis that are used to find some interesting statistics about the user or the most recent/popular posts. Similarly, for our clients we might create or update company websites and even create microsites, such as quizzes and generators.

We also spend some time updating our own company website, to make sure everything is still relevant and modern. I have also contributed to the news page with some tutorials on topics I found interesting.

At lunch we normal either go to the local Tesco Express or head into town to grab some lunch (Market Fridays are great for the whole team – my personal favourite is the falafel stand!), then we return to the office and have our various lunches at the lunch table, and have a little chat. Last Friday, we actually had a group buffet lunch, including sausage rolls, bread, cheeses, PARTY RINGS (that we forgot to eat!), crisps, potato salad, coleslaw and more yummy food.

Favourite/proudest piece of work here

My favourite project is the Instagram colour palette. I might be a bit biased as I came up with the idea, but I think it’s my proudest piece of work because Instagram is my favourite social media platform and I learnt a lot about the Instagram API and analysing/extracting colours from images. The site design was also a lot of fun to create as we had free range of the colours and layout.

What did you do before working at 10 Yetis

Before I started here at 10 Yetis I was pretty fresh out of uni. I had finished my degree in Computing at the University of Gloucestershire around May and I wanted to have a month or two to relax before starting to apply for jobs. I decided to spend some time with my dad back home in Wales and we went on holiday for two weeks, and I spent time catching up with friends and family for most of the summer. I started applying for jobs in August, interviewed with 10 Yetis and I started on the 1st September!

Funniest Yeti story

We have many funny moments in the office. The one I remember the most is when we were making a team video and Dan wanted to do a hand stand and say “I like to party!”. But the hand stand part was not going very well, so me and Zoe tried to help by holding Dan’s legs up! It wasn’t very comfortable for any of us, we couldn’t laugh while Rob was filming and Dan’s face was extremely red. To say the least the clip didn’t make the cut!

If you could have one super hero power, what would it be and why?

I would love to time travel – but without actually being present and effecting history. I’d only like to be able to time travel to the past as I believe the future is to be determined (can we even call it time travel!). I think it would be so fascinating to see what the past really looked like.

Gun to your head: what karaoke song would you choose?

I love music and singing, but I only sing in my own company or very quietly. I don’t have a go-to karaoke song and my favourite songs are super hard to sing, for example songs by Kelly Clarkson and Mariah Carey. But if I had to pick a song it would be The Reason by Hoobastank, mostly just because I know all of the lyrics.
