10Yetis - Weekly Dose of Social - Twitter news, Google revenues and Hashtags galore

Welcome to your weekly dose of Social Media news.

This week there has been lots of topical discussion on Twitter, the biggest hashtags were #OhNoLouis, when it was announced that Louis Tomlinson from One Direction is going to be a father. #ESPYS which are a large sports awards ceremony in America, the main reason for the trend came from Caitlyn Jenner who was picking up an award for courage and dedicated time in her speech to speak out for transgender issues. Another fairly large trend was #PrimeDay which covered Amazon's birthday sale for Prime users, which turned out to be a little more than disappointing.

The Prime day was panned by Twitter critics, but also mostly every one was a bit like 'meh'. Sentiment scores for mentions of Amazon show 65% of tweets were neutral and the hashtag #PrimeDay had a 22% negative sentiment after the sales launched. Amazon has since put out a release that said Prime Day was more successful than their 2014 Black Friday deals which suggests this could be a yearly thing in the future. All the buzz around the sales did help Amazon on Twitter, giving them an overall boost in the sentiment stakes.

We were talking about Caitlyn Jenner above, and everyone was talking about her this week following the ESPYS. She was trending on Twitter and on Instagram, however some people were not saying very kind words about her, and clearly Instagram were not impressed. It's been reported that Instagram blocked users from seeing the 'most recent' section when searching for the Caitlyn Jenner hashtag, this is apparently because it was filled with hateful comments and abusive uploads, a good move by Instagram. Users could still view the Top images for the hashtag which were all positive.

Twitter announced this morning that they've created a new version of your account dashboard which allows you to check up on your privacy and security details. It now shows you devices that have accessed your account and the recent logins to it. You can also now enrol in login verification to make your account extra secure, and revoke access to any devices you don't ant accessing your Twitter account. Also, if you want to you can download your Twitter archive, so you know what you've said everyday for the past however many years of your life!

Google have announced some results and it's pretty much all positive, but I'd be surprised if they'd say, sorry guys we've lost all our money. The news is that it has pulled in revenues of $17.7 billion, with their year-on-year growth at 11 percent. Pretty solid stuff. The bad news is that they didn't match up to ;last year where they had 22% growth. Still at least the money is rising and the investors are pleased too. Shares rose by nearly 12% during after hours trading.

Some other interesting Google news is that now on mobile YouTube users are sticking on the app much longer than they used to, with viewing times up by 60%! Users are now hanging around on mobile for an average of 40 minutes! Wowza!

Well there you go. That's your catch on Social Media officially over. We'll be back next week!
