PR Stunts Involving The Newly Appointed POTUS – 10 Yetis Insight Blog

President Donald Trump… it doesn’t quite sound right yet, does it? It would seem that the world is still reeling from the decision - just like when you go on a night out, end up spending £100 and wake up to a smelly donner kebab, the air is thick with regret, with many taking to the streets to protest his many questionable decisions and morals. His presidency has led to some amazing memes though, such as @TrumpDraws and has also led to some brilliant PR stunts which we can totally get behind.

Below are just a few of our absolute favourites.

Dove – Alternative Facts

A few weeks ago, Kellyanne Conway, counsellor to President Trump, muttered the words ‘alternative facts’ when she was pressed about the lies made by the White House press secretary about the crowd size at the President’s inauguration.

Basically, ‘alternative facts’ are lies.

Ever since that day, the internet has been running with the meme; inventing a myriad of ‘truths’ and labelling them alternative facts. And now, rather hilariously, Dove has gotten in on the action.

Instead of listing the usual deodorant selling points, such as how the product stops excessive sweating and smelling, they listed properties such as ‘increases your IQ by 40 points’ and ‘boosts your Wi-Fi signal’. They ended the long list with the hashtag #AlternativeFacts

The advert itself was two pages long, with the second page simply stating:

“New Dove antiperspirant cares for your skin like never before. #RealFacts.”

The advert was published in a variety of UK newspapers and was immediately posted online and tweeted about.

PornHub – Trump Inauguration Speech

PornHub are constantly coming up with refreshing PR stunts that end up in a myriad of publications. This might be because they are never afraid to be controversial, which of course means that they weren’t going to shy away from the newly appointed POTUS.

The porn website decided to use the hatred and disapproval of President Trump in a clever stunt which would see them cashing in on the outcome. They uploaded his entire inauguration speech onto their site, using the title “Rich White Man F**ks Entire Country All At Once’. Classic.

The video went viral, of course, which gained the adult site both traffic and heaps of press.

Sometimes being controversial really does pay off!

Paddy Power – Inauguration Bets

Ahead of the inauguration speech, constantly controversial bookmaker, Paddy Power, decided to pop up an array of Donald Trump special bets on their website.

One of the bets included betting on how long punters estimated that his speech would last, with the betting provider offering 11/1 for the speech to last 22:30 minutes or longer.

Another regarded what phrases the newly appointed POTUS would say within his speech, with his catchphrase “Make America Great Again’ at 5/4. Other phrases included “Fakes News” at 10/1 and one of his most controversial phrases (you know the one we mean) at 500/1.

Paddy Power also went as far as to let their pundits bet on what colour Trump would be on the night, with options including “terracotta”, “mango and “cinnamon”. If anyone’s interested, cinnamon ended up winning.

The Swedish Government – Climate Change Law

The Swedish Government had the best comeback to the shocking photo that was released when Donald Trump signed an executive order effectively restricting access to abortion for thousands upon thousands of women while surrounded by only male advisers.

They released a photograph of themselves signing a new climate change law, requiring the country to end all greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2045.

The photograph was set up in a very similar way to the one which stars POTUS, but instead of it being a room full of males deciding what women should do with their bodies, it was a room full of women, fronted by Swedish deputy Prime Minister, Isabella Lovin, signing a very important climate change law.

Ellen DeGeneres – Finding Dory

After the newly appointed POTUS revealed and put into effect his ‘Muslim Ban’, there has been an outcry of outrage from regular folk and celebrities alike.

However Ellen DeGeneres had a very clever response without actually ever directly referencing the ban.

Using the film, Finding Dory, which she starred in and which the new POTUS sat down to watch on Saturday afternoon as the rest of his country was protesting, she managed to paint a beautiful picture of acceptance.

The final stunt we’re going to mention is the absolutely hilarious www.trumpdonald.org

It doesn’t need much explanation – it literally just gives you the opportunity to blow a trumpet into the Presidents face. It’s simple but perfect.

You can honestly spend hours doing this. It doesn’t get old.
