Re-launching My Insta Palette - our Instagram social app that tells you all you need to know about the photos you've posted on Instagram

Today we are re-launching My Insta Palette, a concept that was thought of and produced by our lovely web developer, Karen. She came up with the idea due to her love of Instagram aesthetics and her interest in the colours and filters people use the most in their images, and whether this can reveal anything about our personalities.

We hope everyone will love it and have some fun with it too!

Read here all about how it works and what you can do with the results.

The Process

It’s simple to use My Insta Palette, all users have to do is click on the ‘Generate my colour palette’ link, sign into their Instagram account and then let the site do the rest. Which is the complicated part, read on for more details.

Firstly, using the Instagram API, we can gain one-time user access to gather user information and the 20 latest images that user has posted. Once we have this information then the process begins and the site starts creating the profile with the user’s profile picture and username.

Once we have this information we can create one image that includes all the latest 20 photos. We then can analyse the colours of this image and find out what the most used colours are.

Using these results, a grid is then created of these colours and this becomes the users colour palette. Below is an example of what this grid looks like.

The first (top left) block of colour on your colour palette is the most used colour and from this we can find out the closest main colour (there are options of: Black, grey, white, blue, red, green, yellow, pink, purple, brown, orange).

Based on this we can provide users with their colour personality, using colour psychology.

The last part of the profile is all about user’s most liked photo and filters. Using the Instagram API again, we can find the users most liked photo out of their latest 20 photos. Each photo also includes which filter was used, so we can show what filter they have used most on their photos.

So what can you do with this information?

If you’re an avid Instagram user but you feel like your profile is lacking continuity and doesn’t look as good as influencers you aspire to be. Then Myinstapalette can help you with this.

Myinstapalette.com is a handy little fun tool that can spruce up your Instagram account.

Once you find out your colour grid and your most used colour then you can start to get a feel for what style you ought to be following. If you have a strong pastel base then you should continue with brighter images or certain filters that create this pastel look. This will keep your Instagram looking smart and also more aesthetically pleasing for your followers.

If people like your page and content then it’s more likely that they will follow you which is ultimately why we all use Instagram right?! For eternal glory and popularity?

The grid will also reveal the hex code for the colours, which if you’re a whizz on Photoshop and other editing programs is extremely useful.

That is not all. In an updated twist Myinstapalette can now explain what your colour palette says about you. And what your choice of colours (whether you are choosing them consciously or subconsciously) says about your personality.

For example my most used colour is grey and it comes with a handy little description that describes your personality. A bit of fun and most of the time scarily accurate.

The most used filter section is also incredibly useful for those who are constantly switching between one or two favourites. Knowing which filter you use the most or which filter was used on your most liked photo can help you stick to just one, as you can see it’s clearly a popular choice and your followers were obviously struck by that certain image.

All in all, it is a great tool and something that influencers have used in the past, so if it works well for them then why not try it for yourself! Even if you don’t want to publish your results or let people into the secret that you are ‘Indecisive and lack compassion’ then at least you’ll find something out about yourself that you didn’t even know!

Maybe it will even make you reconsider your colour choices going forward. Either way this is definitely something you should try!
