Snapchat Spectacles, LinkedIn makeovers and Domino's cleans up your streets - Social Media Insight

Hi guys,

It's that time of the week again where we round up the top social media news stories for you readers to sink your teeth into. sit back relax and enjoy, this ones a good one!

Snapchat has become the latest social platform to allow its users to “unsend” messages, with a new Clear Chats feature.

Facebook has hinted that soon it would allow its users to unsend messages, but we haven’t heard anything more about that. What we did get instead, is an unsend message feature on Instagram. Now, Snapchat is joining in with its own feature called “Clear Chats.” If you send the wrong message to the wrong person, then Snapchat will let you retract it, even if the person has already seen the message! ... But if the recipient of the unwanted message has taken a screenshot, then there’s not much you can do I’m afraid.

The new Clear Chats feature is rolling out globally in the next few weeks and works with text, images, memories, stickers, or audio notes in one-on-one or group chats. All you have to do is hold down on the message, and you will see a Delete button. Snapchat has however said that this might not always work if the other person doesn’t have the updated version of the app, along with this, when the deletion actually takes place, the recipient will be notified.

LinkedIn has announced carousel ads for Sponsored Content; a new way for marketers to tell their brand story and interact with their target audiences.

Starting today, marketers can use the new carousel ads on LinkedIn, to add texture to their stories by featuring multiple visuals that people can scroll through horizontally on the LinkedIn feed.

Carousel ads were introduced on Facebook years ago, but this is a first for linkedIn. The platform is performing full revamp, and carousels are a definite plus for marketers. After video, carousel ads are the best way to tell a brand’s story.

Since launching in beta, over 300 advertisers - like Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, RBC, and Volvo Canada - have used carousel ads to create fun and informative campaigns, and to tell stories about their company, products and services, industry, and more. Along with this, 75% of beta advertisers saw increased engagement and click-through rates. So all in all, a very good change by LinkedIn.

Adobe is bringing back the lost lettering of the original Bauhaus designers through a series of five type fonts, available for free on Adobe TypeKit.

As part of its “Hidden Treasures” campaign, Adobe has decided to bring the lost lettering of the short-lived German school of design back to life. They were designed based on the letter fragments and sketches that were thought to be lost back in 1933. Two of these lost fonts – Xanti, named after Bauhaus designer Xanti Schawinsky, and Joost, after Joost Schmidt – can be downloaded today. The other three fonts will be available in the coming months, and I’ll admit I’m surprised at how excited I am for these.

We've got the spectacles v2.0.

On April 27, Snap unveiled the new version of its Spectacles that were released last year. While the new versions look almost exactly like the original ones, the new Spectacles differ in the way they function. They now allow you to take pictures and video, both in HD, offer better audio and are water-resistant – allowing for some awesome underwater action shots.

On Monday, Snap announced that the Spectacles v2.0 will be available in the UK and Canada as well. In an interesting spin, Snap chose to work with Amazon as its sales base, possibly to boost reach. Along with this, now you can get them quicker thanks to Amazon’s next day shipping! More countries in Europe will be added soon, including France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The Spectacles will set you back $150, including a charging case and cable, so if you’re in for some funky shades this summer check them out.

Domino's is fixing our roads.

Domino’s is offering to fix potholes in your area (if you live in the US) so that you can order pizza safely! You can nominate your town on the campaign website. In the US, Domino’s is known for being the number one choice for takeout pizza. And there is a reason for this, its insurance policy on the pizzas. “If damage occurs to your carryout order after you leave the store, just bring it back and we’ll remake it for free.” But now, the company is going a step further, offering to make your ride home safer, for you and your pizza.

What a great idea! Potholes are the biggest dangers to your pizza, well other than other cars and greedy passengers! So what better way to fix this problem? The Domino’s “Paving For Pizza” project vows to fix potholes all across the US. So far, it has already fixed more than 50 potholes, and it’s only officially launching today! The first cities to receive and accept the assistance were Burbank, California; Milford, Delawarel Bartonville, Texas and Athens, Georgia.
