Nintendo have had to apologise today, and admit that their calculations for BMI (body mass index) are inappropriate for younger gamers/users after an 11 year old girl's parents complained when Wii Fit labelled her 'overweight'.
The parents of the girl claim that the assertion could have given their daughter an eating disorder, and have branded Nintendo's latest goldmine project as 'irresponsible'.
According to the NHS BMI calculator, Tabea Paul - who at 6st 11lbs (44kgs) and just under 5ft (1.5m) tall is a normal weight for her height with a BMI of 19.5. However, Wii Fit led the 11 year old to decide upon losing 4lbs within four weeks, a decision which was the catalyst for her parent's complaint.
Nintendo have bounced back from bigger than this.
