10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 10th June 2019

Rain is forecast for the rest of the day - and for the rest of the week for that matter, but I am here to brighten your day with this week’s pickings of good and bad PR.

Good PR

It has been announced that Ikea will be launching a new collection of furniture that is specially designed for people with disabilities.

The collection will be called OMTANKSAM – which means ‘thoughtful’ and will have various functional needs to help assist people with disabilities around the home, making it easier and more comfortable.

Ikea created this collection in a bid to change the way companies address disabilities, the range plans to feature products suitable for the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom and customers will also be able to buy additional products such as jar grippers, extra padding for seating and vases that are easier to lift.

Good work Ikea! Hopefully this will be the start for more companies to address the issue and cater more for people with disabilities.

Moonpig have been praised for setting up a Just Giving page for the gay couple who were beaten and robbed by a group of yobs after refusing to kiss on a bus recently in London.

The couple had their phones and bags stolen after being harassed to kiss in front the young boys, after refusing, they were then beaten, leading one of couple to have a broken nose due to the ordeal.

The Just Giving page has been set up to raise £10,000 to help the couple get back on their feet after the attack. Moonpig state that they ‘hate hate’, and they are a brand dedicated to helping people express the greatest of care for their closest relationships so they decided to take a stand against the hate. So far, £6,645 has been raised for the couple Moonpig have really shown their support for Pride month.

Bad PR

Children’s charity Childline has faced some backlash this week after cutting ties with trans activist Munroe Bergdorf just days before she was about to become their LGBT+ campaigner.

Since the announcement, online users have called the move dangerous and inappropriate as Munroe Bergdorf had posed for Playboy back in 2018 and people were referring to her as a ‘porn model’ and that it’s too dangerous for her to have any involvement in any child’s wellbeing.
