10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 18th November 2019

Happy Monday everybody - today is my turn to bring you this week's good and bad PR, but I have somehow managed to worm my way out of it and the lovely Paige has put together today's blog, enjoy!

Good PR

Morrisons

After just a week of Morrisons launching its vegan footlong sausage roll, the supermarket has taken it one step further by launching vegan pigs in blankets in time for Christmas this year. Made from chickpeas and jackfruit, the ‘pigs’ are then wrapped in fluffy pastry.

It will only set you back £2.50 for a pack of 10 and will be sold in UK supermarkets from next Wednesday – perfect for snacking or to add as a side. With Morrisons offering a variety of vegan products – such as pork pies, mozzarella sticks and pizza – maybe it’s time for the rest to follow suit?

Greene King and Coca Cola

With it being (almost) the Christmas period, Road Safety Week and all of the other reasons as to why you SHOULDN’T drive after you’ve had a drink, Greene King and Coca Cola have teamed up and are offering designated drivers free beverages.

Anyone who shows their car keys and agrees to lay off the booze will receive a voucher when they purchase a soft drink. The second time they go up to the bar, they will then receive either a Coke, Diet Coke or a non-alcoholic Heineken for free. It could be worse than not having a free drink at all, so take advantage of being the designated driver this year.

Bad PR

Halfords

Halfords has come under a bit of fire this week as their Christmas advert has angered locals where the advert was filmed. The Christmas advert, entitled ‘The Gift That Keeps On Giving’, was shot in West Sussex, where people receive a £100 fine if they are caught cycling. However, Halfords had ignored that strict no-cycling zone and filmed a child cycling through it in the 20 second video.

However, people have been quick to call the locals out on Twitter, telling them to grow up and focus on more important things.

easyJet

easyJet has landed itself in hot water this week as a passenger at Liverpool John Lennon Airport made it through all security checks and still managed to board the WRONG aircraft. The aircraft that the passenger was meant to board was the one going to Belfast, but instead they boarded a flight to Jersey. Luckily the passenger was removed from the aircraft and was able to board the correct flight, instead of ending up in Jersey.

I mean, an accidental slip maybe one thing, but completely getting through all security points and having no staff acknowledge it was an incorrect flight number or departure is very, very alarming.

Oxford Union

Oxford Union has received backlash this week as a PHD student from Ghana was violently attacked trying to re-enter the union to take his seat during a debate. The debate, which has been a tradition since 1823, saw a blind student “dragged by his ankles” out of the room, leaving him feeling unwelcome.

However, Oxford University did acknowledge "the widespread outrage regarding the unacceptable treatment” of the student, so hopefully, the he receives the compensation that he deserves.
