10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Monday 29th June 2020

Wow has it been a hot minute since I've done one of these. I'm hoping it's like riding a bike wherein you never truly forget how to do it but you can be the judge of whether that's the case.

I don’t know about you but I'm certainly in need of some heart-warming stories to boost morale so I'm just bringing you ace PR stories today. I hope my choices make you smile.

First, McDonald’s have partnered with InstaVolt to install rapid electric vehicle chargers at their drive thru restaurants. This is amazing news, especially given that it was announced last week that rapid charge points will also soon be installed to retail sites such as Sainsbury’s, M&S and Argos. A step towards a much cleaner and greener future for all; hopefully the addition of these charge sites will rid any range anxiety consumers have and encourage them to go for that electric vehicle they have their eye on, over a petrol, diesel or even hybrid car.

Continuing with the eco-friendly good PR, the geniuses over at Paddy Power have pledged to plant 6,000 trees each time Arsenal are unable to win this season after Arsenal player, Hector Bellerin, promised 3,000 trees are planted every time they win. With a spokesperson for Paddy Power simply stating “We decided to step in and help hectare Bellerin out – after all, his team can’t defend their goal, let alone the planet” this PR stunt has been met with applause by all, except maybe Arsenal fans. The stunt was conjured up after Arsenal were defeated in their first two Premier League games following the break.

My last choice of the day comes from Deliveroo for their launch of a table service tool which aims to assist restaurants in opening safely. The in-app function is set to be available to use from the 15th of July and will see customers able to browse menus, order and pay whilst seated at the restaurant; lowering any chance of contact with other customers or staff.

All the orders that are placed through the table service tool will see a 0% commission charge to restaurant partners and Deliveroo are also enabling restaurants to order PPE and signage through their app for free.

The tool can also be used in bars, cafes and pubs.

Will Shu, CEO, Deliveroo commented:

“Thousands of our restaurant partners stayed open during the lockdown to deliver for the NHS and the vulnerable. Deliveroo wants to play a significant role in helping restaurants adopt tech-led solutions to reopen safely, especially smaller partners who otherwise would be unable to develop the technology and face huge financial burdens due to COVID-19. We are committed to developing a wide package of support measures to help the sector’s economic recovery.”
