10 Yetis Examples of Good and Bad PR - Tuesday 29th May 2018

Hi guys, it’s Harriet here – ready to give you this week’s good and bad PR. I hope you all had lovely bank holidays and you enjoy my picks.

Good PR

Starbucks have announced that they are to close 8,000 of their stores in the US today to hold ‘unconscious bias training’.

The commendable move comes after a horrific situation where the manager of the Philly branch called the police on two black men after they refused to vacate the premises - even though they had done nothing wrong.

The coffee shop giant has reached out to activists and experts in the field to create a curriculum that will be put forward to its 175,000 workers.

During the training a video will be shown with remarks from Starbucks executives and rapper and activist Common.

Unconscious bias training is used by corporations, departments and organisations to try and address racism in the workplace.

Starbucks has said of the training that it will be a ‘collaborative and engaging experience for store partners to learn together’.

A doughnut store in London has launched a selection of doughnuts 18cm in diameter just in time for National Doughnut Day (1st June).

Doughnut Time says the doughnuts are made to feed up to four people but I’m guessing most will try and eat the whole thing by themselves.

There are three doughnut flavours available, including a vegan offer. If you’re in London and fancy trying them out, they will be available from the 1st of June at their branches in Shaftesbury Avenua, Notting Hill, Old Street, Westfield Stratford and Victoria Street.

Bad PR

One of the toughest prisons in Britain has their inmates throwing their faeces out of the windows due to a lack of toilets inside.

A report was released over the weekend which claimed that inmates at HMP Long Lartin are having to wait up to two hours to use the toilets due to ageing facilities.

The report revealed that more than half of the 620 inmates currently do not have access to a toilet in their cell, meaning that some have resorted to pooing in buckets and chucking them out of their windows.

It also stated that the government knocked back a funding bid by the prison bosses who desired to install toilets in all of the cells.
