10 Yetis Insight Blog: 6 Brands That Had ‘Egg-cellent’ Easter Campaigns (and 1 that didn’t)

With Easter now behind us, it's a good time to reflect on what companies and brands 'smashed' their Easter campaigns. I've been through tonnes of media stories, Facebook and Twitter posts and the such to dig out some of the best (and worst) campaigns so that you don't have to....

Carlsberg – If Carlsberg did chocolate bars

Who doesn’t like the sound of going up to a bar completely made out of chocolate, to be served a complimentary half pint of beer in a chocolate edible glass?! Yum, yum, yum! Well, you know how the phrase goes… “If Carlsberg did chocolate bars”… and that’s exactly what they did!

In their ‘biggest experimental event’ yet, Carlsberg created a giant chocolate bar in Shoreditch. The full functional three-metre shop was create in the style of an old English pub, and even featured a chocolate dartboard and bar stools.

Tesco – Hot Cross Scones

Many supermarkets and stores released their own adaptations on the traditional hot cross bun, but the one that caught my attention (and tickled my taste buds) was Tesco’s Finest Hot Cross Scones. I love scones, I really, really love hot cross buns, so what’s not to love about this?!

If you asked Joey from F.R.I.E.N.D.S whether he’d rather have a scone or a hot cross bun, he’d definitely tell you to put your hands together – which is exactly what Tesco have done.

Chocolatician – Cumberbunnies

It’s not the first time Chocolatician have created chocolate inspired by English heartthrob Benedict Cumberbatch, creating “Chocobatch” last year; a life-size chocolate model of the actor. This year they created the actor as a bunny – with a bunny body, his face and bunny ears. At £50 each they weren’t exactly cheap, but they came in three different flavours, were 400g and have a shelf-life of 6 months (although I’ll be surprised if any last that long!). Great treat for all Cumberbatch fans out there!

NotOnTheHighStreet – Hot Cross Gin

Infused with fresh citrus fruits, sultanas, cinnamon and nutmeg, the peachy pink gin is available through notonthehighstreet.com at £29.50 per bottle and even has the option for shoppers to personalise the label for the recipient! The website description says “leave the buns and chocolate for the kids, this is Easter for grown-ups!” and I completely agree – it’s nice for us to have something that the little ones can’t have – something that’s just for us this Easter.

For all you scotch egg lovers, through notonthehighstreet you can also purchase a set of two chocolate unscotch eggs (they’re not scotch eggs at all, they just look like them!).

Morrison’s – Giant hot cross buns

Why buy a pack of four or six small hot cross buns when you can buy ONE giant one?! At 82p, I don’t doubt for a second that the giant hot cross buns on sale in Morrison’s were a big hit – I just hope that they still have some stock left because I really need to get my hands on one of these!

Rinkoff Bakery – Crème Egg crodough

I recently gave this good PR on our blog, but it’s definitely worth another mention!

London’s Rinkoff Bakery announced on their Instagram account a few weeks back that they were selling the Crème Egg crodough; it’s made up of frying croissant dough, injecting Crème Egg fondant into the middle of the ring, and then it’s topped off with more fondant and a mini Crème Egg. It’s likely heaven in a doughnut!

I’m just gutted that they were only available in London!

And the one company that didn’t master Easter? Channel 5!

Picture it… it’s Easter Sunday, you’re led on the sofa with the biggest chocolate food-baby on board and you’re wanting some easy TV to watch. You may or may not be religious, but you know that Easter Sunday is traditionally a celebration of the day that Jesus rose from the dead. You may be surrounded by the kids, faces covered in chocolate, who want to watch a kids film. You’re flicking through the TV and what do you come across…? Watership Down!

Yep, that’s right; on a day that’s linked to Jesus’ resurrection and Easter bunnies, Channel 5 want you to watch a cartoon movie about rabbits ripping each other’s heads off. Let’s be honest, the film scarred us all as children and you definitely don’t want your kids watching it until they’re at least 30! Especially not on Easter Sunday when we want them to love bunnies and rabbits because they come bearing chocolate!

Tonnes of Brits took to Twitter to express their disgust, wanting someone to be sacked for the decision, but as of yet there have been no complaints to Ofcom.
