10 Yetis Insight Blog – The Best PR Stunts Involving Game of Thrones

When Game of Thrones returned to our TV screens almost two weeks ago, it’s stated that 60,000 Britons stayed up until 2am to watch the first episode which aired at the same time here as it did in the US. I’m a fan of the show, but not hard-core enough to stay up until 2am, I love my beauty sleep.

In the lead up to the start of Season 6, and in the week and a half following it returning to our screens, tonnes of brands have jumped onto the bandwagon and have done Game of Thrones stunts in order to attract attention to their brand. For all of you GoT fans out there, he’s a round up of some of the best of them…

N.B for all those who haven’t yet watched the first two episodes, I’ve inserted **SPOILER ALERT** to, you know, let you know there’s a spoiler coming up.

With Whom Do You Listen?

Spotify have created a widget on their site that will analyse the music that you listen to and determine which GoT character you’re most like, aptly named ‘With Whom Do You Listen?

I’m not going to lie; I was hoping for Arya, but unfortunately I ended up with Cersei. Meh, I suppose it could’ve been worse. Plus, my quote is now “Power is power” – I’ll take that. As well as telling you who you’re most like, it also breaks down the music that you listen to.

Web of Betrayals

You know how it goes with GoT; you get attached to a character and they kill them off; uou love a duo together and they stab each other in the back. The writers love to shock us in whatever way possible.

To highlight this, infographics company, Vennage, have created an infographic highlighting all 65 acts of betrayal that occurred between Seasons 1 and 5, showing who carried them out, who they were against and the level of betrayal. If you’re living in Westeros, watch you’re back – you can’t trust anyone.

Worth getting life insurance?

Insurance company, Staysure, have released an outline for the main characters of GoT in terms of what life insurance policy they’d recommend and the price & specs that would come with the policy, depending on their lifestyle and hobbies.

Daenerys Targaryen, for example, would be looking at a monthly cost of £37.59 per month for full inpatient cover and full outpatient cover, whilst Jon Snow would be looking at a monthly cost of just £9.85 **SPOILER ALERT** or he’d be looking at being charged with insurance fraud for the whole not really being dead situation.

Melisandre’s necklace

At the end of episode one **SPOILER ALERT** we saw Melisandre remove her necklace and transform into an old lady – presumably, being a witch, her magic is within her necklace keeping herf youthful and gorgeous.

Many men shuddered though after thinking they were about to see young Melisandre naked and in fact saw old Melisandre naked (and many of us women laughed at our men).

On Jimmy Kimmels Live recently, Jimmy showed a promo launch video for “Kay’s Jewelers” where Americans can purchase an age-defying necklace for their mums for Mother’s Day for the mere cost $399.99 – what a bargain!

Tourism Ireland

Teaming up with HBO, Tourism Ireland are in the process of revealed 10x intricately carved doors throughout Ireland, showcasing the beauty of Ireland.

Back in January, Storm, Gertrude hit and felled a lot of three trees within Dark Hedges – an avenue of trees which has appeared more than once in GoT. Wanting to use the trees, they’re being carved and revealed around Ireland, highlighting the beauty of Ireland to the world, each telling a story linked to the first ten episodes to be aired.

Keep your eyes peeled; it’ll all be online when each door becomes available.
