10Yetis - Weekly Dose of Social - Periscope updates, Nicole Arbour scandal and Tinder Super Like

Hey everyone it’s that time again, it’s the weekly dose of social!

First up we’re pleased to announce that Periscope have now added landscape as an option to their app, so now when you’re live streaming from; an event, on holiday, in your house, you don’t have to do it in portrait mode!

Periscope chose to introduce this feature to the app based on user feedback. It’s always great when a company actually listens to their customers and implements what they are asking for. Broadcasters and viewers can now film either way when they stream. Viewers can choose which way they’d like to hold their phone when viewing a live stream, even interchanging mid-stream. The new ferature is now available on iOs, Android and web platforms so no one is missing out. (Except you windows phone users I guess).

Alongside this major update are a few other tweaks. If someone you know shares a broadcast it will appear in your home feed, to make it easier to understand there is now a notification beneath the video which explains who has shared it with you.

Another great move from the app is helping it become more accessible for those with visual impairment. In their new version they have incorporated and are continuing to work on support for iOS accessibility functions.

You will also now know who mutually follows you on the app, and when you broadcast you can easily chose this section of people to broadcast to. So basically just users you follow that also follow you back.

Nice work for periscope, continually updating the app and keeping it fresh whilst still making sure it keeps the same values which made people love it in the first place.

Next, you’ve probably heard countless things about Nicole Arbour this week who got blasted for her YouTube vlog title ‘Dear fat people’. You can tell even from the title that this rubbed some people up the wrong way. Nicole is a comedian and basically used her humour in the video to try and convince fat people to lose weight. A lot of backlash occurred and then she took the video down and now it transpires that she’s lost her job. A director on a film she was about to be working on has fired her from the set after being outraged by the video which he called ‘cruel and lame’. Oops, maybe people should think a little harder before they post something on to the internet for all to see.

Finally, Tinder has added a new feature called the ‘Super Like’ this adds a third option for all those who are on the app. Now it’s not only swiping right but you can seem extra eager with the new third option, swipe up. You will now be able to see before even swiping in any direction whether a user has super liked you. Now I don’t know about you but this just all screams desperate to me, why do you need a third option? Will swiping right become obsolete? Will everyone swipe up? So many unanswered questions.

Well that’s it for this weeks social update! Have a great weekend!
