10Yetis - Weekly Dose of Social - Pinterest, Instagram reach 400m, Life on Twitter & Rugby on Twitter

Good afternoon! It’s that time again. It’s your weekly dose of social. This week we’re going to be looking at Topshop’s team up with Pinterest, Instagram’s newest milestone, our new Twitter app Life on Twitter and the first look at some of the Rugby World Cup on Twitter along with how some brand shave cleverly been tapping into the sporting event.

The team up with Pinterest and Topshop is ingenious. The idea is that you sign into Topshop with your Pinterest account and select one of your Pinterest boards. The application will pick up the main use of colours on that board and create a palette of colour just for you. It will then also suggest clothing pieces from Topshop based on this palette. From there you can go forth and purchase any of the items that take your fancy.

This application also blends (see what I did there?) into real life well. You can take your palette to either the NYC, SoHo or Oxford street store to browse your suggested pieces in store. Not only that, you can also get a personal colour consultation as well as the chance to enjoy some tasty treats, and who doesn’t enjoy that?!

Instagram have hit their next biggest milestone. There online community now boasts 400 million users. Another large part of this news is that the user base is not 75% outside of the USA. This is huge news as it means there is a large global audience and that all the great image based content will be coming from every corner of the globe. Well, once you get past all the selfies. Out of the last 100 million users to sign up to Instagram over half of these live in Europe and Asia. Countries that saw the biggest growth were Brazil, Indonesia and Japan.

Instagram said of the news: “When Instagram launched nearly five years ago, 400 million seemed like a distant dream. Now, we continue to strive to improve Instagram — helping you experience the world through images and connect with others through shared passions.”

Next we’re being extremely humble by giving ourselves a shout out! Our newest web app created by our lead web developer Daniel Benzie is called Life on Twitter, and allows you to see lots of fun stats and facts about your personal Twitter account. This includes things like your Twitter best friends, your most used hashtags and the day of the week that you tweet the most. It’s great fun, oh and we made it on The Next Web. Hell yeah. What I found annoying though was that my most popular tweet from the last 1000 had a misspelled hashtag in it. Try it out and find something embarrassing out about yourself, like that you tweet most on a Sunday (who even tweets on a Sunday?) or that your most popular emoji is the poop emoji. http:// lifeontwitter.com

Finally, the office (well, half of the office) has gone rugby mad, probably as we’re just down the road from Kingsholm, or maybe the rugby world cup is a big deal? I don’t know. Anyway, as with any big sporting/music/tv/film event Twitter goes mad for it and they’ve been using their much loved Hashflags for those tweeting about the matches. They created rugby themed emojis for a number of hashtags to be used throughout the tournament, with flags in a rugby ball shaped frame.

Any brand sthat are not the official sponsor of the Rugby World Cup are not allowed to make reference to it in any sort of promotional material, though many have been getting around this by posting simply about rugby, and not making mention of the world cup. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite uses of the rugby topic by brands recently.

Superdry:

Superdry created this awesome rugby infographic giving you all the facts you need to know about the sport and the biggest teams involved!

Innocent:

Innocent put together a great little video about how the brand has ‘been rugby’ since 1999. It’s a short comedy piece likening aspects of their logo to a rugby ball as well as showing their office full of people in rugby kits.

Samsung UK:

Samsung created a series of videos, theirs feature comedian Jack Whitehall being trained in rugby skills by some very hench rugby players. Very funny and very relevant.
